Weekend Flea Market Finds

Before I share some of the goodies I found at the flea market this weekend, I just have to say -- don't you hate when this happens?
I flipped over my button and charm case this morning and I just dread the thought of picking it all up and reorganizing it. Ugggghhh!
This is not the first time this has happened:(

Some vintage Christmas cards

Love this little pamphlet from a county board meeting in 1890.
Especially like the listing of standing committees shown below -- the first one being for the alms house and paupers.

Vintage Valentines

Spend about two hours digging through two enormous boxes of
Jolee's by you and EK Success stuff -- outdated but still fun!
Love this trio of vintage mini books

As well as this retro children's cookbook

Some great old photos and cabinet cards

This mini book is just the perfect size for ATC's and has
various different stories in it.

LOVE this vintage rummy game.

Gothic Arches Turns Two

I can't believe the Gothic Arches site has been around for two years already! But they have and they are celebrating with some special challenges the next two weeks.
This week's theme was cupcakes, so I created my arch using my favorite cupcake stamp from Oxford Impressions.

Tag Challenge #14 -- Trio

This week's challenge is quite simple. All you have to do is include a "trio" of something into your tag. You can interpret that in any way you'd like. For my tag I stamped three flower inchies.

(I have to give credit here -- I was inspired to include flowers onto an otherwise masculine tag by something I saw Nancy James do recently.)

Tag Challenge #13

Welcome to Tag Tuesday's 13th Challenge. Our challenge this week is not what you think (if you're thinking Halloween). The challenge is to recreate or be inspired by your favorite background paper. I had the chance to do this with the black and orange harlequin designed paper from Crafty Secrets and thought it was great fun! Feel free to create a tag of any theme you like, but let's see your favorite background papers recreated. And if you can, show us the paper itself!

Background Paper from Crafty Secrets
that I love!
Story behind this week's tag:
Last week I won Kris' amazing blog give-away. I wanted to send her a little thank you and this is how this week's tag challenge came about.
Don't know what I was thinking, but I decided to send the Queen of Halloween a halloween tag. I know she loves this paper from Craft Secrets. I've also seen one of our taggers with a background lately that reminded me of this paper. (Sorry, I don't remember who it was to give credit.) Anyway, I recreated the paper using orange cardstock, a text stamp from Hero Arts and then a small harlequin stamp from Technique Tuesday which I black embossed. Voila!
After that I proceeded to finish this pocket tag with a stamp by Queens Dresser Drawers which I embossed in white. I added a Halloween dance ticket inside the pocket.
Sorry, Kris, this tag won't reach you as a complete surprise, but I really wanted to share it along with this week's challenge.

Amazing Tag Sampler

I'm posting the results of last Tuesday's Tag challenge a bit early as I've got a busy couple of days coming up.
All I can say is that the submissions for the "More than a Tag" were beyond amazing. I tried to include more than one photo for those that
were interactive so you can see what great tags they were. You've got to
watch this slide....what creative people!!
(If you click on the tag it will tell you the artist.)

Holidays and Celebrations

This was a first for me -- being published in Stampington's special publication, Holidays and Celebrations. They chose some of my Easter/spring chipboard houses.

I love this publication -- it's filled with such gorgeous holiday creations!

SAWO - Art Journal

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I had a brand new art journal sitting by my craft table, something I had been meaning to give a try. Today's challenge at Saturday's Workout nudged me to create my first two pages.
I was hoping to capture some of what I'm feeling about my one and only child leaving home to move into his own apartment at the end of this month. Leaving the nest so to speak. My son is a runner -- he really never walked anywhere he could run.
So, therapeutic? Definitely. Fun? Very much so. Artistic.....well, not so sure about that.
August 14, 2009
This ship collage came through my friend Pam just in time to make a much needed card for a male colleague.
Ship collage stamp is from TAC. Background mesh stamp is from Prima Marketing. I colored the image with Copics and then added distress ink on top. (I don't want Tim thinking I don't know how to use those distress inks:)
Happy Stuff
I was happy to receive the fall issue of Stampington's Take Ten and see a three-page spread featuring cards I stamped on botanical prints!
More good news came today when I was making my regular blog rounds to find out I won Kris' blogaversary give-away. Her amazing blog candy is here: http://nostalgiccollage.blogspot.com/2009/08/winner-announced2-year-blogoversary.html.
I am thrilled! Thanks, Kris!
Theme Thursday
We went from purple last week to orange this week at Theme Thursday. I made a bunch of Halloween ATC's for my cruise collection, and this one happened to have quite a bit of orange init.
Tag Tuesday Challenge #12 - More Than A Tag
I think this week's challenge is really that! This one will take a bit of thought -- and time -- to create. The challenge is to create something that is a tag, but also a little more than a tag. The tag can be a fold over tag such as mine or a tag trio (see Lynn's tags) or it can have a panel that opens from any direction -- sideways, up, down. You'll really have to use your imagination on this one!
Can't wait to see what all my creative buddies come up with this week!
